Join us for a community pau hana as we reflect on Hawaii’s past, engage with today’s civil rights challenges, and imagine the next 250 years together. Enjoy light refreshments while connecting with local organizations working on issues including safety and peace for all, a living wage, climate justice, reproductive rights, and voting rights. The evening will kick off with a brief introduction and lightning talks from local advocates. Exchange literature, zines, and opportunities to get involved, and participate in an interactive Vision Wall where community members of all ages can share their hopes for the future.

Camron Hurt is the Director of Common Cause Hawaiʻi, a democracy watchdog organization. He joined Common Cause in 2023 as Hawaiʻi Program Manager and was promoted to Director in 2024. During his tenure, Camron has spearheaded legislation to strengthen Hawaiʻi’s campaign finance system, improve lobbying disclosure laws, and limit cash gifts to political campaigns, while also contributing to the community as a high school sports coach. More recently, his work has focused on advancing government transparency and accountability measures and strengthening ethical standards in state and local governance.
Wayne Tanaka
Wayne is the Director of the Sierra Club Hawai‘i. He has dedicated his adult life to protecting Hawaiʻi’s diverse environment and the unique culture that grows along with it. Riya Sood is the Legal Fellow at the ACLU of Hawaiʻi. In this capacity, she assists with litigation on a variety of civil rights issues, including immigrants’ rights, police accountability, and transgender rights. She is a proud graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the Harvard Law Review as co-Chair of the Diversity Committee, and served as Co-President of the Harvard Law School Alliance for Reproductive Justice.
