The Hanapēpē Massacre & Pablo Manlapit: the slow, grinding wheels of sugar and justice is an upcoming educational community event presented by the Kauaʻi Philippine Cultural Center, the Hawaii Filipino Lawyers Association, and the ACLU Hawaiʻi. Event Details Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026 Time: 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Location: Kauaʻi Philippine Cultural Center, 4475 Nuhou St., Lihue Topic Description Often overlooked for his contributions to the Filipino Labor Movement in Hawaiʻi and California, Pablo Manlapit was convicted and exiled as a condition of his parole. Come listen and learn about how the strikes he organized, the killings at Hanapēpē, and the effort underway to right the record. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and visit the “Relics of War: Justice, Culture, and Community in Times of Conflict” and “Martial Law in Hawaiʻi” exhibit displays in the King Kamehameha V, Judiciary History Center.
