Protecting people in prison and jail is a matter of public health, law, and basic humanity.

On January 5th 2021, the ACLU of Hawaiʻi sent the attached letter to Governor Ige, Lt. Governor Green, Department of Health Director Char, and Department of Public Safety Director Otani asking them to clarify that people in jails and prisons, who meet the criteria to receive the COVID-19 vaccine under Phase 1 of the State’s vaccination plan, will be able to receive the vaccine during that phase.
