ACLU of Hawaiʻi Launches Search for New Finance & Operations Director
HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi — The ACLU of Hawaiʻi (“ACLU-HI”) announced an open search today for a detail-oriented, mission-driven Finance & Operations Director to lead its day-to-day fiscal operations, ensure rigorous regulatory compliance, and safeguard the long-term financial health of the affiliate.
The hiring process opens at a critical juncture for the organization as it expands its civil liberties litigation, legislative advocacy, and community centered public education initiatives across the Hawaiian Islands. Operating from the Honolulu office, the full-time, exempt position reports directly to the Executive Director with an annual salary of $120,000 USD.
Modernizing Systems & Maintaining Compliance
At a time when nonprofit operations face increasing regulatory scrutiny, the role serves as the lead architect for ACLU-HI's internal controls and financial systems. Key responsibilities include managing full cycle accounts payable and receivable in QuickBooks, directing payroll coordination, and preparing detailed budget-to-actual reports for individual departments.
The Director will also drive important technological initiatives, which include building automated, electronic expense workflows connecting QuickBooks, ADP payroll, and corporate credit cards to streamline staff workflows and protect organizational assets.
Additionally, the position serves as the primary staff liaison to the Board Treasurer, Board Finance Committee, and external contracted auditors during the annual audit season and IRS Form 990 preparation.
Qualifications & How to Apply
The ACLU of Hawaiʻi is seeking candidates with a bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, paired with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in accounting or financial operations. While nonprofit experience and a CPA license or candidacy are preferred, a proven capacity to manage complex regulatory frameworks; such as Hawaii’s DCCA filings and State Charity Registration; is highly valued.
Applications will be accepted until November 8, 2026. Early applications are strongly encouraged as the position remains open until filled. The targeted start date is January 2026, with the exact date remaining negotiable.
To apply, eligible candidates must email a cover letter (max 2 pages), a resume or CV (max 3 pages), three professional references, and one professional writing sample (such as a financial memo or budget narrative) to [email protected] with the subject line "Finance & Operations Director Application."
