2026 Legislative Wrap-Up Report

Document Date: August 14, 2026

Aloha mai kākou,

This session, the ACLU of Hawaiʻi fought to advance due process and civil liberties across a wide range of issues, anchored by our top priorities: bail reform, immigrant justice, and gender equity. We are grateful to the coalitions, partners, and community members who stood with us in that fight. The 2026 session delivered hard-won victories, tested us with difficult losses, and opened new paths for meaningful policy change in Hawaiʻi. As threats to our democracy grow, so does the urgency of this work.

Every year, we start from zero and raise funds to continue our work and keep our staff. Last year, membership gifts accounted for much of the total funding support we received to keep our work going. We hope you will stand with us in the sessions ahead as we build the policies that safeguard our freedoms and hold the line against authoritarianism.
